A refresher on building your balanced scorecard:


Step 1: Set your goals
The first step in creating a balanced scorecard is setting your objectives and goals. Ask yourself, “What do I want my organization to achieve?” Once you have determined your objectives, create key performance indicators (KPIs) that will be used to measure progress toward those objectives. This can include financial goals, customer satisfaction metrics, operational efficiency measures, employee engagement levels, market share growth rates, etc. 

Step 2: Identify the metrics
Next, it’s important to identify the right metrics for each KPI. This means deciding what data points should be tracked and how frequently they should be measured. For example, if you are tracking customer satisfaction levels, you might track weekly survey results or monthly Net Promoter Scores (NPS). The more granular your data points are for each KPI, the better able you will be to accurately assess progress towards achieving those objectives.  

Step 3: Create an Action Plan 
Now it’s time to create an action plan for reaching those goals. This involves determining who will be responsible for what tasks when they should start working on them and setting up reporting structures to monitor progress in real-time. Finally, ensure everyone involved in the process has access to the tools they need to effectively execute their tasks (e.g., project management software).  

Step 4: Monitor progress
Monitoring progress regularly is essential for any plan of action to work successfully. Without regular review meetings or check-ins with team members, it can become difficult to stay on track and ensure that objectives are being met on schedule. Additionally, without regular feedback loops in place, it can become difficult for teams to adjust course quickly if something isn't going according to plan – this could mean missing deadlines or falling short of targets because no one was able to identify problems early enough in the process.
